UAV pilot training in Luoping, Yunnan

On May, 12, 2016, our company was invited by China Surveying and Mapping Geological Information Society to dispatch Nan Zhiyong and Zhangjin to get involve in training class for ‘zero-foundation’ UAV surveying aviation photographing people, also training class of pilots for UAV aerobat system (rising and landing fixed wing of remote controller). After over a month of assiduous study, our company successfully accomplished the training, passed the appraisal and obtained driving license for UAW. It got consistent praise from the training unit. The whole training process is specified below:

1. Training site:

Lying in the southeastern corner of Yunnan Province, Luoping is one of the four rape flower landscapes in China. The county is dry in atmosphere, modest in temperature and cool in breeze. It has adequate sun exposure. All those provide sound condition for driving of UAV.

In the opening ceremony, Li Weisen, deputy director of National Surveying Geological Information Bureau, Zou Yaguang, deputy director of Yunnan Surveying Bureau, Ma Zhenfu, general secretary of National Surveying Geological Information Society and relevant leaders gave major speeches on development and prospects of aerial surveying UAV.

3. Introduction to unmanned aerial vehicle

UAV is the abbreviation of unmanned aerial vehicle. It is an unmanned plane utilizing radio robot and procedure control device. It includes unmanned helicopter, fixed wing plane, rotor craft, unmanned airship, unmanned parasol and so forth. It is categorized based on different platform structure. UAV has three major platforms namely fixed wing unmanned plane, unmanned helicopter and rotor unmanned aerial vehicle. Fixed wing unmanned aerial vehicle is the mainstream platform for military and most civil UAV. Its biggest characteristic is high flying speed. UAV is most flexible that can vertically take flight or suspend. Rotor (multiple-shaft) UAV is the first choice for consumable purposes and some civil purposes. Its flexibility is yet to match the helicopter but beats the fixed wing UAV (it needs thrust when taking off and landing). But it is simple in operation and low in cost.

4. Curriculum arrangement

The training course mainly includes theoretical study and pragmatic flight. The part on theoretical study includes existing rules of UAV, aviation meteorology, principle of flight, airspace control and so forth. The part on pragmatic flight include assembly, maintenance of plane and out-field flight.

5. Theoretical study

It mainly covers rules and terms of civil aviation, principle of flight for UAV, system composition of UAV, aeronautical meteorology and flight environment, air control, rules of UAV aerial survey and so forth. To study theories services the purpose of better pragmatic flight and to timely handle with various complicated external environment.

6. Assembly of UAV

Assembly of UAV includes: (1) External installation: installation of vehicle body, flap, horizontal tail, vertical tail, undercart and so forth; (2) Internal installation: installation of steering engine, receiver, battery, fuel tank and various remoters; (3) Installation of power system: installation of engine, spiral oar, igniter and so forth. After installation, conduct frequency an debugging on UAV before referring to out-field pragmatic flight.

7. Pragmatic flight

Pragmatic flight is the priority of this training. It mainly includes simulator , out-field flight. Out-field flight includes rectangle, swerving to the left and the right, midair parking, taking off and landing, emergency landing and so forth.

8. Marketing prospect of UAV

Civil UAV has extensive demands including mapping, city planning, forest plant protection, power (oil pipe) tour line, check of disasters, forestry, weather, national resources, police purposes, ocean water conservancy and so forth. In recent years, UAV has been receiving more and more attention on application of civil market. Demands for UAV are urgent with huge market scale and broad market prospects.

Along with various polices and resolutions of the country in recent years, UAV aerial shooting and remote market will greet leap-frog development in the following years. Application of aerial photo UAV is not restrained to aerial shooting, aerial photographing and aerial photography, it is also used to cater applicative demands of such aspects as forest fire control by fixed wing vehicle, seismic survey, check of radioactive detection, frontier patrol tour, emergency disaster relief, output appraisal of crops, pipeline tour inspection, survey of wild animals in conservancy areas, military reconnaissance, scientific research test on aerial photo e-device, maritime affairs survey, fishing activity and so forth.
